Based on Eli Stair's 2006 check_telnet based on Net::Telnet. This version make the pattern matching more rigorous by examining ALL elements of the banner. Only if NONE of the elements match will the service check fail.

Parameters:
-H hostname/IP: of host to connect to gmetad/gmond on
-P Port: to connect to and retrieve XML
-C Command: command to execute when telnet connects
-M Match: String to match
-T Timeout: in seconds

Example (pattern matching):
When the connection to a Traverse BVE API server succeeds, the banner is "OK 200 Traverse BVE TCP Server v5.6 ready".

When the connection is NOT successful (API server is out of connections), the banner is "ERR Connection refused to (hostaddress):7661: max connections reached"

OK check:
check_telnet.pl -H hostaddress -P 7661 -M OK
OK: regex-string (OK) matches login banner.

Failed check:
check_telnet.pl -H hostaddress -P 7661 -M OK
CRITICAL: regex-string (OK) did not match login banner.
